A Breakout Year for Vidarbha

Aman Mokhade, a 24-year-old opener from Vidarbha, has become one of domestic cricket’s biggest talking points in the 2025–26 season. Once struggling for consistent chances, he has now turned into Vidarbha’s most reliable run machine across formats.

Vijay Hazare Trophy Dominance

Mokhade has been sensational in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring 643 runs in just eight innings. He stands second on the run charts, just behind Devdutt Padikkal, as Vidarbha heads into the semi-final against Karnataka on January 15, 2026. His standout knocks include an unbeaten 150 off 121 balls against Baroda and a classy 139 off 125 versus Jammu & Kashmir. He also smashed 110 off 99 balls against a strong Bengal attack featuring Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar, maintaining a strike rate above 109.

Ranji Trophy Redemption

The Ranji Trophy told an even stronger comeback story. Mokhade piled up 577 runs in five matches at a stunning average of 96.16, including three centuries and a career-best 183. This was a massive turnaround from last season, where he managed only 107 runs in four matches. Limited chances and a packed top order had pushed him to the sidelines — until now.

The Coaching Push That Changed It All

Under coach Jwala Singh, known for mentoring Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mokhade was given a bold challenge — finish among the top 10 Ranji run-scorers. That belief reshaped his mindset, pushing him to focus on match-winning innings rather than just scoring runs.

Season Numbers & India Dream

Across formats, Mokhade has already scored between 1,417 and 1,500 runs this season. His T20 strike rate has crossed 157, and despite going unsold in the IPL auction, his performances are impossible to ignore. Born on January 16, 2001, Mokhade is clear about his goal: “I want to play for India.” With Vidarbha’s semi-final next, the stage is set for another defining chapter.
