Shutdown Rumors Debunked
Reports from international tech outlets suggested that OnePlus was being “dismantled” by its parent company, Oppo.
These claims were linked to a reported 20% decline in global smartphone shipments in 2024 and a sharp drop in market share in India.
Responding to the buzz, OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu directly addressed the issue on X (formerly Twitter),
labeling the claims as “unverified” and “misinformation.”
He confirmed that OnePlus operations in India are running normally, with no plans to exit the market.
The company also urged customers and partners to trust official communication channels,
highlighting India as a priority region backed by continuous investments and steady demand for the Nord series.
Market Challenges Highlighted
Industry analysts point out that OnePlus has gradually moved away from its original “flagship killer” identity.
This shift has placed the brand in direct competition with Samsung’s Galaxy FE lineup, Google Pixel devices,
and other premium smartphones.
IDC analyst Jitesh Ubrani noted that reduced marketing efforts and the merger of OxygenOS with ColorOS
may have impacted brand perception.
However, he emphasized that there are no indicators of a shutdown,
especially as India continues to contribute more than half of OnePlus’s annual sales.
Globally, OnePlus has narrowed its focus by launching fewer Nord models in markets like the US,
but India remains a stronghold for the brand.
Recent Product & Software Updates
Despite the rumors, OnePlus continues to push updates and products in India.
The company recently rolled out OxygenOS 16.0.3.501 for OnePlus 13s users,
introducing system refinements aimed at smoother gaming and improved streaming performance.
Leaks also hint at exciting upcoming devices, including the OnePlus 15T with an advanced chipset
and a future OnePlus 16 featuring a 200MP camera and a massive 9,000mAh battery.
Adding to the momentum, the Amazon Great Republic Day Sale is currently offering attractive discounts
on the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R models.
Strategic Outlook for India
OnePlus has reiterated its long-term commitment to India,
strongly countering any perception of a retreat from the market.
While global shipment pressures remain a challenge,
local operations continue to show resilience through regular updates,
new launches, and aggressive sales strategies.
Observers believe that although OnePlus may streamline its global portfolio,
its presence in India is set to continue well into the future.
