Prashant Tamang, the beloved winner of Indian Idol Season 3, passed away on January 11, 2026, at just 43. The music world and his millions of fans were left in shock after the popular singer died from a sudden heart attack at his home in Dwarka, Delhi.

Tamang first rose to fame in 2007 after winning Indian Idol 3. He made history as the first contestant from Northeast India to win the title. Born on January 4, 1983, in Darjeeling, West Bengal, he came from a humble background. After his father’s death, he joined the Kolkata Police and developed his singing talent in the police orchestra.

His songs like Man Sainli, Gorkha Paltan, and Asarai Mahinama became favorites among Nepali and Indian music lovers. Tamang also released a popular album called Dhanyavad and performed in concerts around the world, winning hearts with his powerful voice and humble nature.

Tamang later expanded his career into acting. He was praised for his role as Daniel Acho in the Amazon Prime series Paatal Lok and its second season. He also starred in Nepali films such as Gorkha Paltan and Pardeshi. Recently, he was announced to appear in the big Bollywood project Battle of Galwan opposite Salman Khan — a move that had fans excited.

On the morning of January 11, 2026, Tamang suffered a heart attack at his home. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in Delhi, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Friends and family said he had shown no signs of major health problems before this tragic day.

Tamang’s last Instagram post was from December 2025, where he shared clips of his live show in Dubai. He thanked fans and expressed his joy at performing in front of a cheering crowd.

News of his death spread quickly on social media. Singer Pramod Kharel confirmed the news on Facebook, expressing deep shock. Fellow artists like Amit Paul and other stars shared heartfelt messages, while fans worldwide posted memories and tributes.

Prashant Tamang’s sudden passing is mourned as the loss of not only a great singer but a symbol of pride for the Gorkha community and millions of music lovers.
