Incident Overview

An IndiGo flight traveling from Delhi to Bagdogra was forced to make an emergency landing at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on January 18, 2026, after a bomb threat was reported mid-air.

The aircraft was carrying 222 passengers, including eight infants, along with crew members. All passengers were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

What Happened on the Flight

Air Traffic Control received the bomb threat alert at around 8:46 AM. Following standard safety protocols, flight 6E-6650 was immediately diverted to Lucknow.

The aircraft landed safely at 9:17 AM and was taken to an isolated bay at the airport for detailed security checks.

Bomb Threat Details

The threat came from a handwritten note found inside the aircraft’s lavatory. The note, written on tissue paper, read: “Plane mein bomb” (Bomb in the plane).

A passenger noticed the note and quickly informed the cabin crew, who then alerted authorities. Initial inspections confirmed that no explosive device was found.

Security Response at Lucknow Airport

Security agencies, including bomb disposal squads, CISF, and airport security teams, conducted thorough checks of the aircraft.

After evacuation, passengers were scanned and monitored as a precaution. Airport operations continued normally, ensuring minimal disruption to other flights.

IndiGo released a statement confirming that a “security threat was noticed onboard” and said it was fully cooperating with authorities.

Ongoing Investigation

Lucknow police have confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify the source of the note. Legal action will be taken once the individual responsible is traced.

Authorities have stated that the situation is under control. While similar threats involving IndiGo flights have occurred recently, officials have clarified that this incident appears to be unrelated.
